Since 2022 I've been working for Action on Poverty, a UK-based INGO that supports and builds the capabilities of local orgs to deliver rights-based projects in their own countries.
Since 2014 I have worked with Cohere, previously called Xavier Project, a charity based in East Africa that supports refugee-led organisations.
I have led the development of Cohere's overall operational model which enfranchises refugee orgs to lead the international aid and development process in their own communities. So far this model has helped 20 RLOs reach more funding from international actors and deliver better quality projects to over 12,000 children and adults.
I enjoy writing of all kinds, from fiction to copywriting:
- My team came in 3rd place in the Future of Life Institute's 2022 Worldbuilding Contest. This included (among other things) writing 2 short stories.
- I have a sci-fi trilogy on Amazon, and I'm currently working on another novel.
- A horror short story of mine was featured in The Nightmare Collective short story collection.
- I have done copywriting for trade magazines in the UK and World Archaeology magazine.
Reframe.network
I built a profile site called Reframe that showcases the work of refugee-led organisations and helps them connect with donors. It's built using the LAMP stack and hosted on an AWS EC2 instance.
Front-end Tech Used: Javascript, HTML, Bootstrap
Back-end Tech Used: PHP, MariaDB, Apache, virtual Debian instance on Amazon EC2.
Cohere's Website
I built a visually snazzy static website for Cohere. It was built from the ground up with no framework, due to the unique visual design requirements.
Front-end Tech Used: Bootstrap, Javascript
Back-end Tech Used: The site is hosted on Netlify and is effectively "back-end-less", although it uses Netlify CMS and deploys from GitHub for the news/blog functionality.
Another passion of mine that I've been lucky enough to have been paid for on occassion. I have professionally photographed 3 weddings and have done a photo piece on Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem for Le Visiteur Magazine.
My photography experience means I'm very handy with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
Hand-in-hand with my interest in photography comes filmmaking. Below is some of my best stuff. Also, at university (UCL), I was lucky enough to be President of the Film and TV Society 2011-2012.
I make synth pop under the name Baba Baraka, available on Spotify and other platforms.
